Daily Practice: August 29, 2025 Friday Hike

White Picket Fence - In homage to Paul Strand

Starting when I was young, I built a daily practice around music focused on my study of becoming a classical oboist. A daily practice is more than “practicing daily”; that is a habit. Habits are fixed. A daily practice is working to always expand, grow, and explore. Sometimes you fly and sometimes you crash, but without the crashes, flying is often not possible.

Over the past few months, I’ve been working on a daily practice in photography. My photographic journey has always been about growth and exploration, but due to other demands, my exploration has been in fits and starts.

I now hereby commit to a daily practice in photography. Some days it will be about making images integrated into my daily routines of walking, hiking, shopping, cooking, hanging out around the house, etc. Other days it will be about editing, evaluating, and exposing my work to others.

I will aim to post one group of daily practice photos a week. I start with this collection on my Friday hike. Thinking about my suburbs series and fences.
